Welcome To Lanky Living

In Editorials by Justin Coleman

Being tall is great – we all know that. We can dunk basketballs, reach things on the top shelf and never have to worry about having our view blocked at concerts. But it isn’t all sunshine and smiles. Finding clothes that fit us is a chore that many people just don’t understand. I haven’t been able to walk into a store and buy a pair of shoes since I was about 15. The same holds true for things like cars, household tasks (low shower heads!), luggage and more.

Ultimately, being tall IS awesome and we are going to celebrate that fact.

There are also some fascinating tall people in the world ranging from athletes, investors, programmers and numerous others. The stories these people have to tell are not only compelling but can serve as a source of inspiration for the rest of us.

So, Lanky Living isn’t a site where we are going to complain about being tall. And it isn’t just a site to tell you what car to buy or which suitcase will drive you the least crazy. We are going to tackle serious issues and connect with people who may have never had their voices heard.

Ultimately, being tall IS awesome and we are going to celebrate that fact. Whether you are a tall person yourself or you have tall people in your life we want to welcome you and sincerely hope you enjoy your time here!

What’s Your Story?

The origin story of Lanky Living is not straightforward tale. We (being myself and my co-founder Anthony) were heads-down working on an entirely different iOS app when the core ideas for Lanky Living came to me. I quickly became obsessed with the idea of building a site tailored towards tall people like myself and pitched Anthony at my first opportunity. Fortunately he also liked what I was thinking about and we started to play with things on the side (a side project of our side project) and then things snowballed from there.

It took maybe a month or so before we transitioned away from our initial project and on to Lanky Living but once we did things really took off. What you are seeing and reading now is the culmination of about five months of hard work. You are also only seeing a small piece of our overall vision for what Lanky Living will be. We wanted to get something out to you now and bring you along on this journey with us.

We hope that you can see and feel that attention to detail when using the site.

We didn’t just want to throw our first articles into a plain WordPress theme and see what happened though. We spent a long time designing the site. We made sure it was responsive so you could read it wherever you are. We brought in an amazing intern named Ashley to help design many of the awesome graphics and visuals you see throughout the site. We designed all of the ads you see ourselves to ensure that every little thing you are looking at is pleasant (yes, we even want the ads to be nice).

We wanted Lanky Living to be more than a useful resource for –we want it to be a place that you enjoy coming to every week. We hope that you can see and feel that attention to detail when using the site. If not, we certainly would like to hear from you so we can improve.

So, What Is It?

Today, Lanky Living is the place for you to find advice on what cars to look at, what clothes to buy or which luggage is best suited for you. It’s a place to read editorials written with tall people in mind. A place to learn about interesting tall folks from all over the world. We want to be the first place you look to when you are shopping for anything that might be affected by your height or when you just need something good to read.

We want to be the first place you look to when you are shopping for anything that might be affected by your height or when you just need something good to read.

Going forward, Lanky Living is going to be many more things. We can’t get in to all of them now but we can say that we have some exciting things in the hopper like a podcast, a newsletter (sign-up in the sidebar!) and video content. We will have some exciting announcements coming throughout the year that you will see featured on the site and in our emails.

What Isn’t It?

At this point, Lanky Living is not going to be a daily publication. We’ve played with numerous formats and ideas for the content but the plan that seems the most appropriate to us is bringing you pieces that are well thought-out yet still timely. We want to make sure that everything we recommend to you is going to satisfy and work for you. Your trust is invaluable to us.

We want to interview interesting people and bring you guest content from outside sources. Those things can take time and if we forced them out on a daily basis the quality would likely suffer. We suggest signing up for our email newsletter, subscribing to our RSS feed and following us on social media to make sure you keep up with the latest on the site.

In Summary

So there you have it. This is Lanky Living. It’s a living, growing thing that you are going to help shape. We need and want to hear from you so please do not hesitate to reach out. If you have something you think other readers would benefit from please contact us. We are always accepting high quality guest posts.

We hope you enjoy the site and we look forward to talking to you again in the near future.
